Travelling Without Insurance

2 August 2010 No Comment

Often when planning your dream holiday, insurance is the last thing on your mind because not many of us would want to admit or even remotely consider that things could go frightfully wrong. But think about it for a moment, what could possibly be so bad about expecting the unexpected and having contingency plans? Purchasing travel insurance isn’t as daunting as you think and it could literally save you and your family a lot of hassle and thousands of dollars in the event of an untoward incident. One primary reason, many shy away from purchasing travel insurance is because they mistakenly assume that their existing term policies will protect them when they are overseas. In fact, these policies often fall short of coverage provided by travel insurance benefits.

Travel Insurance and why you need it

Imagine if you needed to cancel your flight due to unforeseen circumstances, lost your travel documents, luggage or needed to pay for costly medical bills while overseas, what is supposed to be a restful and relaxing holiday could turn out to be a nightmare. Those that provide 24 hour emergency assistance will come in useful. While having a travel insurance cannot prevent disasters from happening, it does dampen the stress and financial impact it causes. Imagine what would happen if you are stranded on a holiday island during a medical emergency.  You might need an ambulance or helicopter to transport you to a hospital or require immediate specialized medical care and all this could cost you a lot of money as a foreigner in a foreign land. This could all be reimbursed with a travel insurance plan.

Reimbursement could also occur if you had to cancel your trip due to unforeseen circumstances specified in the insurance policy such as a sudden hospitalization of yourself or an immediate family member. The same applies if you have to return home early from a trip due to the above reason. Therefore don’t be surprised as despite all these benefits, travel insurance is not as expensive as you may think.  Why not check with your local insurance agent for available plans before your next trip?
